Are Pretty Little Liars and Ravenswood merging? Say it ain’t so! I was never a huge fan of the Pretty Little Liars spin-off Ravenswood, so I will try my best not to bash the show for those few people that actually tuned in to the series. Honestly, I probably would have enjoyed the show and given it a chance if it wasn’t a Pretty Little Liars spin-off. I’m a diehard PLL fan, so one would assume that I was over the moon that there would be a spin-off show, but that really wasn’t the case. It was more like the opposite. I felt like Marlene King and the PLL writing team put Season 4 of PLL on the backburner and focused all of their efforts on Ravenswood. Pretty Little Liars Halloween episodes are a huge deal among PLL fans, and the 2013 Pretty Little Liars episode was used to promote Ravenswood last year and offered little to no enjoyment for PLL fans.
Marlene King discussed Season 5 of Pretty Little Liars and the Ravenswood cancellation in a recent interview. Caleb Rivers is returning to Rosewood in Episode 5 of Season 5 (the 100th episode), and there is a good chance he could be dragging the Ravenswood circus along with him. Apparently Marlene thinks that PLL fans need closure on the Ravenswood series, and plans to somehow integrate that into PLL. Here’s what she told Zap2It, “We have a way to sort of visit a mini version of Ravenswood and I think we’ll probably try to do that, so that even as writers we have a little closure on that story. We didn’t have much of a chance to get that story told, but we’ll find some closure there.”
I can’t be the only person that sees this as being a potential disaster. With everything going on in Rosewood, there is no room for supernatural entities and ghosts. First of all, Ravenswood was called because no one was watching it. If the writers begin incorporating Ravenswood into Pretty Little Liars it could have a seriously negative effect on the ratings. Secondly, bringing supernatural storylines into Pretty Little Liars could potentially destroy so many storylines. I can see the fan theories now. “Is Alison DiLaurentis a ghost? The Hastings family is haunted by a hundred year curse.” You see were I am going with this right? If there are supernatural beings creeping around Rosewood then half of the unsolved mysteries could chalked up to ghosts and curses. It would just be a mess.
At the end of the day it is up to the writers and producers to decide what direction they are going to go with the show. I really hope they don’t merge Ravenswood and Pretty Little Liars for selfish reasons and their own gratification and simultaneously destroy Pretty Little Liars in the process.
